Memorial Shifts to Online Learning
April 30, 2021 - Memorial Composite High School students will shift to online learning due to increased COVID-19 cases connected to the school. Parkland School Division Superintendent Shauna Boyce made the announcement Friday after submitting the request for the operational shift to Alberta Education. At-home learning will be in effect from Monday, May 3rd through Friday, May 14th with a return to in-person classes on Monday, May 17th.
Currently, 30% of the student population and 25% of staff are self-isolating at-home as a result of being close contacts, and over 10 cases linked to the school. In addition, the school is experiencing student absenteeism of approximately 50%.
As of Friday, April 30th, Memorial Composite High School is the only PSD school that will be shifting to online learning. Parkland School Division is monitoring the number of cases per 100,000 as well as overall case numbers for our region very closely as they can certainly change rapidly. Parkland School Division continues to consult with Alberta Education and Alberta Health Services on any individual school or grade circumstances.
